A record-setting receiver in football and a standout in lacrosse, Steve Sutton earned All East and All conference honors in football and helped the lacrosse team to its first post-season bid.

Sutton was captain and Most Valuable Player of the 1974 football team which went 7-2 and established St. Lawrence career records for receptions with 70, receiving yardage with 1,432 and touchdown receptions with 18. He set the single season record of 501 receiving yards in 1972, averaging 23.9 yards per catch on 21 catches and scored seven touchdowns. He earned all conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior and was All East as a senior. He went on to have professional tryouts with the New York Giants and Toronto Argonauts.

He also used his speed, strength and athletic ability on the lacrosse field, helping the Saint program to new heights in wins during his career. The 1974 team earned an ECAC tournament bid, the first for the Saint lacrosse program and he captained the 1975 team which went 8-4.

Steve received the ECAC Scholarship and Athletic Medal as a senior and went on to earn his Master’s in education at St. Lawrence and served as a graduate assistant coach. He earned his law degree at DePaul and now practices law in Massachusetts.
