St. Lawrence's first official NCAA wreslting national champion, Ron "Luca" Pelligra was an All America in both football and wrestling.

He helped the football team to national prominence in the late 1970s with his outstanding play at defensive tackle and helped earn SLU's first playoff bid in football as a senior. He was a folk hero among Saint wrestling fans for his domination of the heavyweight class. He set records for pins and went on to win the national title in 1976, beating a 375 pound super heavyweight in the finals.

He is now a successful attorney in Syracuse.
