Margaret Bessette Allen

Active in all of athletic activities then available for women, Margaret “Peg” Bessette Allen was best known for her exploits in field hockey and skiing.

Peg was a four year varsity field hockey player, earning the seal and scroll in 1936 and a blazer in 1937. In skiing she was third in the Middlebury Alpine combined and competed with the men’s team in a 1937 meet against Clarkson.

She was also a member of the Board of Athletic Control for three years, the SLU Club and played basketball, volleyball and tennis. Awarded a pendant for “Most Active Girl in Winter Sports” in 1937, she skied in both the Kate Smith Ski Tournament at Lake Placid and the Middlebury Winter Carnival in 1939.

Peg retired after a 20 year career in high school guidance in 1986.
