Gene Simonsen helped the St. Lawrence basketball and tennis teams to three of the best seasons in their program history during his three seasons as a varsity athlete and went on to a highly successful career as a global investment manager.

Simonsen set the career rebounding record with 730, the season rebounding record with 320 and the career field goal record with 355. His career average of 15.3 points per game in 59 games was also a record at the time of his graduation. He captained the 1963 team which finished 15-7 for the best record in 14 seasons and was MVP as a sophomore. In tennis, he went 20-5 for his career and was a member of the 1961 team which went undefeated and won the Atlantic Coast NCAA Small College Championship, going unbeaten in singles. He was also a team VMP in tennis.

Following his graduation from St. Lawrence he earned a master's degree in business at the University of Arkansas before embarking on his career in investments. He continued to compete in tennis while traveling the world, winning an international tournament in Madrid, Spain in 1973. He continues to play golf and tennis and still enjoys traveling the world.
