Athletics Operations Internship Opportunities

Athletics Interns

In its commitment to student educational and developmental outcomes, the St. Lawrence University intercollegiate athletic department reflects the mission, goals and objectives of the University and, for the students involved, provides an opportunity not only for competitive accomplishment but one that continually reinforces such personal traits as responsibility, perseverance, sacrifice, honesty, respect, compassion, and other qualities that otherwise may be difficult to learn in a traditional learning environment.

The St. Lawrence University athletic department has established opportunities to prepare students to develop in the field of collegiate and professional sports. This internship has been designed to provide student with the opportunity to learn the roles and responsibilities of athletic administrators while gaining hands on experience with home event management, marketing and miscellaneous operations within the athletics department. This experience will provide transferable skills to students interested in a career at the collegiate or professional level.

Athletic Marketing & Promotions Internship

Athletics Interns 2

The Athletic Marketing and Promotions Internship program focuses on the development of relationships with the friends of Saints athletics. This entails working closely with outside vendors while building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and other stakeholders. Beyond the responsibilities of sales and marketing, the Athletic Marketing and Promotions team is responsible for updating and enhancing our corporate partner database and manual, as well as assisting with marketing plans and strategies for upcoming events.

“My experience working with the athletic department on the Corporate Promotions side and Game Management side have been nothing but the best experience. You gain knowledge from others, developing quality relationships with those you work with along with the businesses you partner with. My favorite part about my internship with Franco is insight you receive when discussing the financial side of the athletic department, looking to create revenue within the Athletic Department.” — Tripp Clark ‘24

“My experience working with Franco Bari and the athletic department is exactly why I came to a school like St. Lawrence. It was an unbelievable opportunity to gain real world experience while contributing to every team at St. Lawrence. I’m going into the real world a step ahead because of my time with the Corporate Partners and Franco.” — Clint Mills '24

Athletics & Fan Engagement Internship

Athletics Interns 3

The Athletics and Fan Engagement Internship has a broad and creative scope. Students will be responsible for creating digital content (still and action) for game promotions, as well as content for the Appleton video board. This team will work closely with corporate sponsors and the Athletic Marketing and Promotions team. Students will also assist with innovative ideas to enhance and increase fan engagement for both DI and DIII teams.

“Working with the athletic department has been one of the most rewarding and relevant learning experiences I have had at St. Lawrence. I enjoyed the challenge of managing my own group’s work while working closely with other programs within the athletic department. The lack of a rigid structure allows for students to have open conversations with Franco, that promote new and creative ideas.” — Grady Herrington '24

“Given the opportunity to work both on the Marketing team and the Corporate Promotions side throughout the year was a great experience. I was able to build relationships with multiple athletic teams along with local businesses in town, providing me with knowledge that is applicable post-graduation.” — Ryan Hart '24

Game Management Internship

Athletics Interns 4

Game Management Internship is the backbone of sporting events here at SLU. Students’ responsibilities include setting up and breaking down for game days, managing staff scheduling for events, providing information and enforcing rules to ensure a positive experience for spectators. Interns also contribute to data entry and maintain key event manuals, keeping them up to date.

Our goal is to create a great experience for teams, officials, and spectators alike. Students will do this by being professional, positive, attentive, courteous and respectful, all while performing your job in an efficient manner. Job duties vary depending on the sport and is outlined in a meeting before each contest.

“I always knew I wanted a career in sports but had no idea where to start. Having the opportunity to work in the athletic department during my time at St. Lawrence gave me the experience I was looking for and gave me the motivation to pursue a career in sports after graduation.  Working in Game Management allowed me to have exposure to working with many different departments and become comfortable with uncomfortable situations. Some of my responsibilities included meeting with visiting teams and officials, ensuring all game day positions are filled and executed properly and more. During my time in game management, I was able to come to the realization that I love working in this fast-paced environment that is the sports industry. The skills I learned such as time management, communication, and customer service have been well translated into my roles I have held after graduation in Sales & Service with the Florida Panthers.” — Lilly Sullivan '23, Account Manager for Membership Services, Florida Panthers

“This internship was an awesome learning experience that has helped prepare me for a career in sports post-graduation. I got to work a wide variety of roles within the athletic department and met some really cool people along the way.” — Tom Jacques '24

“The game management internship has been an advantageous experience to get hands-on experience in the realm of managing athletic teams and facilitating events within the sports context. Having a multitude of sports at different levels allows for interns to experience an array of opportunities and job positions.” — Brooke Martindale '26

The SID and coaching staff here at SLU have helped me to build a professional resume where I also get to enjoy every moment along the way." — Joey Roiger '25
