One of the outstanding throwers in St. Lawrence track and field history, Rich Wright was a four-time All America, won a dozen state and conference championships and was the 1988 NCAA hammer champion.

Wright, “The Muscle” and Tim McCrossen “The Missle” helped the Saint track team to a third place finish in the 1987 NCAA outdoor championships and to second place finishes in both the 1987 and 1988 indoor championships. Their teams also swept the state indoor and outdoor championships in both 1987 and 1988.

Rich still holds the state overall and St. Lawrence record in the hammer with a throw of 205-2 at the time of his induction and that mark was the NCAA Division III overall record in 1988. He also held the state meet record in the hammer at 192-5 and won the NCAA title with a throw of 193-8, the third best in NCAA Division III meet history to that point. He earned All America honors in the hammer in both 1987 and 1988 and in the 35 pound weight during the indoor season both years, finishing second and third. He also held the Saint record in the 35 pound weight at the time of his induction with a mark of 60-1.75. He swept the state and conference championships in the shot, weight and hammer as a senior.

Also the 1986 Northeastern US Body Building champion, Rich won a number of weightlifting championships from 1989 through 1997. He is now the owner of the Wright Care Agency in Rosedale, NY.
