The trainer for St. Lawrence athletics from 1923-38, Doc Kavanaugh went from St. Lawrence to Cornell where he retired in 1967 after 30 years of service to the institution. He was the prime mover behind the organization of the National Trainer’s Association and a member of the U.S. Olympic training staff at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He was also trainer at the All America football game and was instrumental in the development of better protective equipment.
