A four sport athlete while an undergraduate at St. Lawrence Dr. Capello was a member of the wrestling, basketball and football teams as well as a standout in track and field.

He played both guard and tackle on the football team, but was most known for his exploits as a field performer in track. He was the New York State hammer and shot put champion and set a conference record in winning the shot put with a throw of 39-5½.

His continued contributions to St. Lawrence include the funding of the Capello Preventive and Corrective Room for the care and treatment of athletic injuries.
