A four year standout in both football and basketball, Marty Byrnes also played baseball and ran track while an undergraduate and was the top all around athlete in his class.

He still holds the St. Lawrence record for field goal distance with a 57 yard kick against Northeastern in 1937 which stood up as the longest in all of college football that year.

A member of the Varsity L Club, Kixioc, the student government and the yearbook staff, he led an active campus life and was a leader in both athletics and the campus community.
