An All America as a senior and a member of the 1962 NCAA All Tournament team, Richie Broadbelt had an impressive career as a Saint goaltender, compiling a 42-16-2 career record and backstopping the Saints to the first ECAC tournament championship.

He played in two NCAA tournaments, was All East in 1961-62 and 1962-63 and was St. Lawrence Most Valuable Player as both a junior and a senior. He went 19-6-1 with a .925 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average as a senior. He made 60 appearances in his career and finished with a career save percentage of .908 and a 2.88 goals against average.

A member of the 1964 Canadian Olympic hockey team, he was the 1963 winner of the KSLU Senior Award and was treasurer of the junior class and senior class president during his undergraduate career.
