One of the outstanding middleweights in St. Lawrence wrestling history, John Cooper completed an unbeaten career in 1941-42 with a 22-0 record which included 21 wins by fall.

A two-time captain of the wrestling team and a Dean’s List student, the Ogdensburg native competed at national tournaments in both 1940 and 1941 and established the SLU record for the fastest pin with an 18 second fall.

Wrestling at 128 pounds, Cooper wrestled just 6 minutes and 50 seconds in seven matches in the 1940 season and was a three-time winner of the outstanding wrestler award. He is a retired engineer and was the principal valuation engineer for the New York State Department of Public Works.
