St. Lawrence University Athletics

The fifth wrestler in St. Lawrence history to win an NCAA individual championship when he won the heavyweight division as a senior, Mike Conners was a three-time All America in wrestling and a three-year starter in football.

He was the Saint heavyweight for four straight years and was a four-time conference champion. He earned All America in wrestling for the first time as a sophomore, finishing sixth; was third as a junior and culminated his career with the national title in 1984, winning in overtime after battling to a 2-2 draw through regulation. He also earned a silver medal in wrestling in the 1985 National Sports Festival.

A defensive lineman in football, he was a key member of the defense on the 1982 Lambert Bowl winning team which made the NCAA semifinals and finished the year 10-1. He had 76 total tackles on that team including a sack and was among the tackle leaders as a senior with 71 total stops.

Now a teacher and football and wrestling coach for Fulton City Schools, he coached his 2000 football team to a Section championship and the state finals. He is a two-time Class A Coach of the Year and the 2000 Central New York Coach of the Year for football. He has compiled an outstanding 15-year record of 282-15-1 in wrestling which includes six state championships. The 1999 National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association Coach of the Year, he is an 11-time league coach of the year. Prior to taking his teaching and coaching position at Fulton, he was an assistant football coach for St. Lawrence in 1984 and 1985 and assistant wrestling coach in 1985.
