Season Recap: Saints Close Season with Career Bests at NCAA Eastern Regionals

The St. Lawrence University Nordic ski team wrapped up their season at the NCAA Eastern Regionals, hosted by Middlebury in late February.

On the women's side, junior Samantha Legate was a consistent performer for the Scarlet and Brown. Legate finished 16th in the sprints at UVM, 32nd in the 10-kilometer freestyle at UVM, and 42nd in the 7.5-kilometer classic at regionals.

Sophomore Berit Meyers recorded a season-best 43rd place in 20-kilometer mass-start freestyle at regionals, while first-year Stella Powell finished 50th in the 15K at Dartmouth. Abby Murphy opened her first season with the Saints, leading the way in 10K finishing 54th at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid. Murphy closed the season finishing 44th in the 7.5K classic at regionals.

Sophomore Evan Nichols helped lead the men's squad this season for the Saints, finishing 29th in the 10K freestyle at Williams and 44th twice in the 15K freestyle at Dartmouth and in the 7.5K classic at regionals. Junior Geo DeBrosse recorded a 44th-place result in the sprints at UVM, while sophomore Boden Sundell placed 43rd in the 15K freestyle at Dartmouth and 53rd in the 10K freestyle at Williams.

The men recorded a slew of career-best performances, with all six Saints performing well at regionals. Nichols led the way placing 22nd in 52:43.4, while Oliver White and Carl Morse also cracked the top 30, coming in 27th and 30th.

The women's team recorded a team-high eighth-place finish in the classic sprint at UVM on February 7, while the men closed out the season with a seventh-place result in the 20-kilometer mass-start freestyle at Eastern Regionals on February 21.

In the 2026 season, along with their home carnival to start the season, the Saints took trips to Colby, Dartmouth, UVM, Williams and Middlebury for the NCAA Eastern Regionals.

"The EISA is an incredibly deep and competitive field this season we primarily focused on just closing the gap and getting individuals into the top 30," said head coach Ethan Townsend. "We definitely made progress toward that and have a group here that is motivated to improve. I think we are poised to move up in the team score next season with a fun and talented group."

"Nico is our lone graduating senior, who has been a solid leader for the team. We're proud of all the work he has put in over the last four years."

The lone senior graduating this season is Nico Alexander.

With the 2026 season wrapped up, they now will prepare and look to improve as they take steps towards the 2027 season.
