Samantha Legate placed 23rd and Evan Nicols placed 29th to lead the St. Lawrence University Nordic ski team with two top-30 finishes in the 1.3-kilometer freestyle sprints, on Tuesday at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid.
The sprint races concluded the Saints home carnival and ran in conjunction with the US National Cross Country Championships, which will continue throughout the week.
Legate posted a time of 3:29.95 to lead the Saints with her 23rd-place finish. Posting the next-best results on the women's side was
Abby Murphy and
Berit Meyers, who finished back-to-back in 70th and 71st, respectively, finishing one hundredth of a second apart.
Nichols led the men's group with a 29th-place finish recording a time of 2:57.99.
Geo DeBrosse finished in 2:59.94 for 55th overall, while
Boden Sundell came in 67th in 3:04.66.
"We got two top 30 finishes on the day which is exciting," said head coach
Ethan Townsend. "It was great to partner USST and ORDA to bring the entire US Nordic community together for a talented and competitive event."
The women's team came in 10th place overall, while the men's squad placed 11th.
The Saints will return to EISA action in a couple weeks, as they travel to Waterville, Maine for the Colby College Carnival on January 23-24.
