Finz, Musclow Add PRs as Saints Conclude LL Championship Opener in Eighth

The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team opened the four-day Liberty League Championships on Wednesday at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, hosted by Ithaca. Following the first session of competition, the Saints currently sit in eighth place in the overall team standings.

The highlight of the night came in the final event of the session, the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Lilly Mruzik, Ila Musclow, Garyn Finz, and Gracie Ringer combined for a seventh-place finish, touching the wall in 4:09.75 to secure crucial points for the Scarlet and Brown.

Elsewhere in the pool, the Saints saw notable time drops in both the distance and medley events. In the 500-yard freestyle, Sophie Nelson led the way with a 16th-place finish, clocking in at 5:26.04. Ila Musclow followed with a landmark swim individually, beating her previous mark with an 18-second lifetime best of 5:41.18 to place 23rd.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Finz continued the theme by posting a personal record of 2:20.10. Her 21st-place finish contributed to the Saints' day one tally as they look to climb the leaderboard in the coming days.

The Saints will return to the pool Thursday morning for day two of the championships, with preliminary heats scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
