The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team put up a resilient fight on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling to Hartwick College by a score of 181-111 at the Augsbury Pool.
The Saints began the meet by celebrating Saints seniors – as
Annie Cyr,
Faith Rhinehart, and
Gracie Ringer graduate from St. Lawrence at the end of the current season.
In the pool,
Sophie Nelson and
Lilly Mruzik led the charge for the Saints, each capturing two individual event wins. Nelson displayed her endurance in the distance lanes, sweeping the distance freestyle events with a winning time of 11:29.44 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a 5:45.85 in the 500-yard freestyle. In the 500, teammate
Ila Musclow added to the Saints' point total by touching the wall in a season-best 5:59.52 to take third place.
Lilly Mruzik was equally dominant in the backstroke. She secured the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.34 before returning to the water to claim the win in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.12.
Amelia Stacy and
Gracie Ringer also made major impacts on the scoreboard. Stacy swept her specialty events, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:24.03, and following up with a season-best 2:22.50 to win the 200-yard individual medley.
Ringer showcased her versatility in the sprints, finishing second in a tight 50-yard freestyle at 27.04, before powering to a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.88. Additionally,
McKenna Kraft earned a hard-fought second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 2:15.24.
The team is scheduled to head to the Middlebury Invitational next weekend, January 30-31, for their final tune-up before the Liberty League Championships. Those championships are set to take place from February 18-21 at Ithaca College's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
