Senior
Kobe Villeneuve wrapped up the St. Lawrence University Alpine ski team 2025 campaign with a trip to the NCAA Championships, hosted by Dartmouth in the beginning of March.
The Saints recorded multiple top 20 EISA finishes throughout the season, headlined by Villeneuve, who had a podium second-place finish in the giant slalom at Saint Michael's Carnival for his best career performance. The podium finish is the first for Villeneuve and marked a career-best performance for the senior. His second-place finish is the first podium performance for the Saints since Jake VanDeursen '19 placed third in 2019 and the first second-place performance since Graham Scott '15 in 2012.
Villeneuve recorded six EISA top 20 finishes this season and qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships, placing 19th in the giant slalom and 21st in the slalom. His performances throughout the season earned him the Auty/Reynolds MVP Award.
Other highlighted performances on the men's side include
Mitch Sampson, who placed 18th at the Bates College Carnival, and
Charlie Welch, who landed 20th at the UNH Carnival.
The men's team together recorded five top five finishes throughout the season across multiple carnivals, including day two at Dartmouth, day two at Middlebury, day one at Saint Michael's, day two at St. Lawrence, and on day one at UNH for the NCAA Eastern Regionals.
On the women's side, senior
Benni Caloro recorded a career-best ninth-place finish in the slalom at the Saints home carnival. She recorded four EISA top 20 finishes on the season, including two top 10's. Her second-best finish of the season was 10th in the slalom at Saint Michael's. She also earned the Auty/Reynolds MVP Award.
Emma Gatcliffe skied her career best, as she landed a 24th-place finish at the UNH Carnival-NCAA Eastern Regionals to wrap up their season. Audrey Higgens-Lopez placed 28th at Dartmouth as well.
"I am extremely proud of the whole team for the season," said head coach
Willi Steinrotter. "We had some great results both individually and as a team. Kobe finishing second in the slalom at the Saint Michael's carnival was our first podium in a number of years, and the guy's team was fourth in three giant slalom races this season and not far out of second and third in those races. We will miss all our seniors next season, but they have had a huge part of making our team strong again! Our returning student-athletes had some great results this season and we will be looking forward to the 2025-2026 season!
This past season the teams traveled to Bates, hosted their home SLU Carnival, and participated in carnivals at Saint Michael's, Dartmouth, Middlebury, and UNH for the NCAA Eastern Regionals.
