The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team opened competition Friday at the Don Richards Invitational, finishing the first day in fifth place.

St. Lawrence recorded a pair of relay fourth-place finishes to start the weekend. Ella Kuchman, Gracie Ringer, Carlyn Rapoport, and Lilly Mruzik placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.25. Later in the session, Mruzik, Ringer, Ila Musclow, and Garyn Finz finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:21.66.

In individual events, Sophie Nelson led the Saints with a fourth-place result in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:24.21.

The meet continues Saturday in Rochester.
