The St. Lawrence University men's soccer team finished 6-10 on the year and went 4-5 in Liberty League play, but advanced to the Liberty League Tournament, where they fell in the first round.
Not many teams had as strong a schedule early in their season as they fell to a trio of strong SUNYAC foes in Geneseo, Cortland, and Plattsburgh, along with NESCAC powerhouse No. 9 Middlebury.
St. Lawrence bounced back with a pair of wins, beating SUNY Canton 2-0, and SUNY Potsdam 8-1 as they went into Liberty League play. Road losses against Hobart and Skidmore gave way to a 2-0 road win against Clarkson, and a 3-0 home victory versus Bard.
The Saints alternated wins and losses over the next five games, falling to Vassar, RIT, and Union, and defeating Ithaca and RPI.
The finish gave St. Lawrence the sixth seed in the Liberty League Tournament, where they were set to travel to Poughkeepsie for a rematch of the 2024 Championship game against the Brewers. The first round matchup would go to the home team, where Vassar took a 4-1 win.
The Saints were led offensively by
Nicholas Petrone, who was tied for the team lead with five goals, and had a team-high 13 points with his three assists. Senior
Ryan Campbell also had five goals for the Saints and had two assists for 12 points.
Henry Hart was the leading playmaker for the team with a team-best five assists, while
Grant Gilmer was not far behind with four assists to go with his two goals.
First-Year
Zach Amato was the team's goalkeeper for 15 of their 16 games and played over 1300 minutes in the woodwork. He posted a 6-9 record with three clean sheets and provided a 1.86 goals against and a .645 save percentage.
The Saints saw five players named to the All-Liberty League teams, led by junior
Baker Diaz, who was named to the First-Team for the second straight season, and is the third season in which he has appeared on an All-League team.
St. Lawrence saw Campbell and
Jeremy Ogango named to the Second-Team, while Petrone and
Gustav Scheibler were honored on the Third-Team.
In the classroom, Diaz and Petrone were also named to the CSC's Academic All-District team. They were joined on the team by fellow junior
Dennis Argueta, who started 13 games this season for the Saints and had two goals and an assist from the midfield.
