The St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team used multiple event wins to secure a 156-130 win over William Smith at Augsbury Pool. The Saints opened the afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay and carried the momentum through a series of strong individual performances, highlighted by multiple event wins and several lifetime bests.
"This one came right down to the wire, and our group answered every challenge," said Saints head coach Rachel Curtiss. "They put everything they had into each race. We're heading into the midseason stretch with a lot of momentum."
Lilly Mruzik,
Ila Musclow,
Garyn Finz, and
Gracie Ringer set the tone with a winning time of 1:58.78 in the 200-yard medley relay. Mruzik backed up the relay performance with a sweep of the backstroke events, touching first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.26 and the 200 backstroke in 2:22.09.
Sophie Nelson controlled the distance events. She won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:38.14 and later added another individual victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:36.51.
Ringer delivered a strong sprinting performance, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 27.09 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.37.
Ella Kuchman placed second in the 50 freestyle in 27.51 and added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.74, which marked a lifetime best.
Finz added a win of her own with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.54.
Musclow contributed key points with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:42.66, and she also won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:12.95.
The Saints closed the meet on a high note with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Nelson, Rapoport, Kuchman, and Mruzik combined for a finishing time of 1:35.52.
St. Lawrence also saw several swimmers post lifetime bests.
Scout Huckans recorded a personal best in the 200 butterfly,
Kristen Blight achieved a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke, and
Annie Cyr posted personal records in both the 100 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke.
