The St. Lawrence University men's swimming and diving team delivered a gritty effort on Saturday, defeating Hobart 139-124 in a dual meet that required the Saints to win nearly every event they entered. St. Lawrence rose to the challenge, piecing together victories via several lifetime bests to secure the team win.
"This was a super close meet and the team really stepped up," said Saints head coach
Rachel Curtiss. "They raced their hearts out. We are going into mid-season with great energy."
Oliver Clancy,
Logan Doody,
Patrick Noonan, and
Josh Harris opened the meet with a strong win in the 200-yard medley relay, touching in 1:49.53 to establish early momentum.
Clancy followed with a controlled swim in the 1000-yard freestyle, earning first with a time of 11:28.90. He later added a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke.
Doody had one of his best dual meets of the season. He posted a lifetime best of 1:05.55 in the 100-yard breaststroke to take first, then sprinted to another win in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.61.
Harris added two individual victories of his own, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.88 and the 200 IM in 2:07.94.
Anthony Gabrielli was a triple winner. He touched first in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.51, won the 200 backstroke in 2:14.74, and later claimed the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.35, a lifetime best.
Noonan delivered three important victories during the middle of the meet. He won the 200-yard butterfly in a lifetime-best 2:16.92, added a win in the 100 freestyle in 54.95, and closed his day with a victory in the 500 freestyle in 5:23.98.
Noah Heinrichs contributed key points with a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and a lifetime-best effort in the 50 freestyle.
The Saints closed the meet with a statement win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Heinrichs, Doody, Gabrielli, and Harris combined for a first-place time of 1:35.52, sealing the team victory.
The men return to competition as they ready for the Don Richards Invitational at the beginning of December.
