Lilly Mruzik,
Sophie Nelson, and a relay team took victories for the St. Lawrence University women's swimming and diving team, as they competed against Clarkson, Smith and Union in their opening appearance of the year at the Union Quad Meet.
"What a great way to start off the season," said Saints head coach
Rachel Curtiss. "We are proud of how our team performed after just a few weeks of training. It is exciting to think about the remainder of the season and we're ready to resume competition."
The meet began on a high note as
Lilly Mruzik,
Ila Musclow,
Garyn Finz, and
Gracie Ringer teamed up to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.02, setting the tone for the rest of the competition. First-year swimmer
Sophie Nelson made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, capturing first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:38.57.
Mruzik continued her strong day with a first-place finish in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall in 29.78 seconds. She also added a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 1:04.83. Finz contributed significantly in the butterfly events, placing second in the 50 fly with a time of 29.15 and finishing fourth in the 100 fly in 1:05.40.
Musclow added depth to the Saints' breaststroke lineup, earning third-place finishes in both the 50 breaststroke (34.71) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.61).
The Saints will look to build on this momentum as they continue their fall schedule with a road meet at Skidmore on Friday, October 24.
