Dylan Babcock finished in second place in the weight throw and
Gordon White was third in the long jump to lead the St. Lawrence University men's indoor track and field team at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Babcock posted a huge personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 15.53 meters, 51 centimeters better than his previous best performance, set a the Middlebury Winter Classic just three weeks ago.
The junior from Nichols, New York, had to land a solid mark on the last throw of the preliminary round after fouling on his first two attempts to qualify for the finals. He nearly matched his personal best on that final attempt with a mark of 15.01 meters to finish the preliminary flights in third. Babcock failed to improve on his first two attempts in the finals, but launched his final throw 20 inches farther than he ever had before to move into second place.
White posted a season-best mark in the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters, improving on his regional qualifying mark. White was consistent throughout the competition, posting four jumps of 6.80 meters or further on the day. He currently ranks 28th on the NCAA Division III performance list.
