St. Lawrence University distance runner
Nick Lyndaker has wrapped up his indoor career with All-America honors in the mile run. He earns the distinction with a fourth-place overall finish, and also competed in the national final for the 3,000-meter run on Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
In the mile run, Lyndaker faced a stacked field and performed admirably. After beginning the race mid-pack, he made a move to the front of the leaderboard. By the end of the race's third lap, around the 600-meter mark, he was the race leader. From there, Jack Brown was able to pull away down the final stretch and win the race by a very slim margin, claiming the national title.
"Nick ran an amazing race today to earn fourth place and All-America honors in the mile," said Saints head coach John Newman. "It was a super tactical and scrappy race but he made timely moves to put himself among the leaders in what was a blazing last couple of laps."
Lyndaker's time of 4:14.54 was just over a half-second slower than the race winner Brown, who took the crown for Central College among a tight group at the top of the field at 4:14.01. With the fourth-place finish, Lyndaker was awarded All-America honors once more.
Lyndaker engaged in a grueling two-race schedule over the day. He then competed in the 3000-meter final as well, crossing the line in 8:44.15 for his 20
th-place finish.
"The 3000-meter run was a big challenge having only about an hour and a half to regroup after the mile," said Newman. "He's had an historic season with three school records, two conference titles and even a sub 4 minute mile! Today capped this incredible season with All American honors in his favorite race."
St. Lawrence now readies for their next event, which shifts to the outdoors for the Saints Ice Breaker on Saturday, April 4.
