Prior to St. Lawrence

Clough was a team captain of the Vermont State Championship indoor and outdoor track and field teams at St. Johnsbury Academy. He set the school record and tied the state record in the 55-meter dash (6.50), and also broke the school record in the 55-meter hurdles (7.80), long jump (20 feet, 10.5 inches) and 4x200 relay. A First-Team All-State selection, he was the Caledonia Record Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He competed at nationals in the 60-meter dash, finishing in 7.04 seconds, and set a meet record at the Essex Invitational in the 100-meter dash (10.90). Clough also excelled in the classroom as an honors student. He earned a spot in the National Honor Society and participated in student government.
