Box Score Cory Santangelo scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick to put the Red Dragons up early in the first half, and SUNY Oneonta added two second-half goals to defeat the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team 3-0 Friday afternoon in Oneonta, New York.
Jethro Dede and
Rob Brandell led the Saints with two shots on goal each, while
Stephen Dorney,
Ryan Roche and
Brendan McNamee had one.
Dede placed the first shot on goal for the Saints, but his shot was saved by Nicholas Giordano.
After the break, Scott Cebollero tallied the Red Dragons second goal of the game just after the 71st minute with a header off a restart.
The Saints created numerous opportunities to score, outshooting their opponent 16-8. Justin Cebollero put away Oneonta's third and final goal of the game off a cross pass from Carlos Martinez.
Junior goalkeeper
Mike Smith made three saves in goal for the Saints, while Giordano tallied seven saves.
The Saints fall to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Red Dragon's remain undefeated at 3-0.
St. Lawrence will face Rhode Island College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for day two of the Oneonta Tournament.
