St. Lawrence University Esports opened its Fall 2026 campaign with a busy first week of competition, finishing 8-5 overall across Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, and Overwatch.
Super Smash Bros Varsity opened regular-season ECAC play Monday against Saint Joseph's University. The Saints kept both crew battles close but ultimately fell 0-2, with final scores of 11-12 and 9-12. Varsity returned Tuesday for three NECC preseason matches, falling to Toronto Metropolitan University before responding with a strong 12-2 victory over West Virginia University Tech. The team closed the evening with a 7-12 loss to the University of Florida, finishing the opening week 1-3 overall.
Super Smash Bros Academy also began its regular season Monday, falling 0-2 to the University of Michigan-Flint. Academy bounced back during Tuesday's NECC preseason slate, dropping its opener to the University of West Florida before earning back-to-back victories over Vanderbilt University and North Park University to finish the week 2-2.
Rocket League made an impressive debut Wednesday, going 2-0 in NECC preseason competition. The Saints opened against Pace University with a 3-1 series victory, highlighted by decisive 6-0 and 7-0 game wins. St. Lawrence followed that performance with another 3-1 victory over Kettering University to complete an undefeated opening night. Rocket League had a Week 1 regular-season bye and will begin ECAC competition next week.
Overwatch delivered one of the most exciting performances of the opening week, finishing 3-0 across regular-season and preseason competition. St. Lawrence opened its ECAC regular season Thursday night in a streamed match against Stockton University, with the Saints ultimately earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory in a series that required six maps to decide.
St. Lawrence came out strong in Map 1, taking a convincing 2-1 victory to open the series. Stockton responded early in Map 2 on Aatlis, jumping out to a 2-0 lead and putting the Ospreys in prime position to even the match. St. Lawrence answered with a complete turnaround, winning three straight objectives to reverse sweep the map 3-2 and take a 2-0 series advantage.
Stockton refused to go away. The Ospreys controlled the next two maps, winning a decisive Map 3 by a 3-0 score before taking Map 4, 1-0, to even the series and force a winner-take-all fifth map.
For Map 5 on Eichenwalde, the Saints put together an outstanding defensive performance and full-held Stockton, but Stockton answered with a strong defensive stand of its own to force the map to a tie. With the best-of-five still undecided at 2-2-1, the teams were sent to an unusual sixth map.
The final map proved to be just as competitive as the rest of the series, but St. Lawrence was able to edge out Stockton and secure the victory, giving the Saints their first ECAC win of the Fall 2026 season.
Overwatch carried that momentum into Friday's NECC preseason competition, earning victories over Davenport University and Western Michigan University to finish its opening week undefeated at 3-0.
With Week 1 complete, St. Lawrence Esports sits at 8-5 overall, posting the best Week 1 winning percentage of any fall semester in program history and the program's best first-week winning percentage since Spring 2023.
