The St. Lawrence University men's track and field team sits fifth in the team standings following the opening day of the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as the program welcomed the remainder of the league to the Merrick-Pinkard Track and Field Complex.
Patrick Russell earned the Saints' top finish of the day, crossing the line second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:23.29.
Erik Schneider added to the team total with a fifth-place finish in the men's javelin throw, reaching 47.80 meters.
Erik Marelli headlines Saturday's finals after winning his section of the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries in 14.78, a personal record by three-tenths of a second, to enter the championship final as the top seed.
Spencer Thoma also made his mark in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 22.41 to set a personal record by nearly a full second.
Adam Lee competed in the 400-meter hurdles preliminaries, finishing eighth in 58.10.
The Saints return to action Saturday for the second and final day of competition on the M-P.
