The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team put together a record-setting opening day at the Liberty League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, headlined by standout performances from Ella Baker.
Baker created a huge moment on her home track, posting a program record of 25.04 in the 200-meter dash preliminaries to earn the second seed heading into Saturday's final. She earlier matched another program standard, tying the program record in the 100-meter dash prelim with a time of 12.13 en route to a third-place seed.
Blanchard turned in a PR performance of her own in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in 38:24.51, punching her ticket to regionals in the process by hitting the AARTFC standard in the distance race.
Amelia Berthold is well-positioned in the heptathlon, sitting second in the overall standings through four events after finishing second in the high jump at 1.49 meters. She returns Saturday for the remaining three disciplines.
Rosemary Fleischmann and Eva Gaetano both set personal records in the hammer throw, finishing 10th and 11th with marks of 40.65 and 37.86 meters, respectively.
The Saints return to action Saturday for the second and final day of competition.
