The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team got the AARTFC Championships underway Friday, collecting points in both the distance medley relay and the pentathlon on opening day.
The quartet of
Madison Beaudoin,
Ava Machado,
Addison Ash and
Avery Blanchard combined to finish seventh in the distance medley relay, crossing the line in 12:23.20.
Amelia Berthold performed well in multis, tallying points across many events and placing third overall in the pentathlon. Berthold opened the multi-event with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles crossing the line at 9.68, then cleared 1.52 meters to place fourth in the high jump. She also contributed with a seventh-place effort of 4.98 meters in the long jump.
Ella Baker also competed in the sprints, and turned in one of her fastest 60-meter performances of her career, registering a 7.93 in a highly competitive field.
"We're off to a great start with several points on the board after day one of the AARTFC Championships," said Saints head coach
Kate Howard. "We're so proud of the way our team members took advantage of the opportunity to compete in such a high level championship atmosphere. We're looking forward to carrying today's momentum into day two tomorrow."Â
The Saints will continue competition Saturday at the AARTFC Championships.
