Led by a standout performance in the throwing circle and a wave of career-best marks, the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team showcased its depth at the Plattsburgh Sprint/Field Meet on Tuesday.
While no team scores were kept, the Saints made the most of the mid-week contest, headlined by
Kaitlyn Putman's dominant victory in the shot put. Putman claimed the top spot with a throw of 10.49 meters, besting the field by over a meter and finishing as the only competitor to hit the Liberty League qualifying mark.
The success in the field continued with
Amelia Berthold, who cleared a personal-best 1.52 meters to take first place in the high jump.
Isla Bougard Duncan also reached a new career high, leaping 4.75 meters to finish second in the long jump, while
Rosemary Fleischmann added to the personal-record tally with a second-place toss of 13.46 meters in the weight throw.
On the track, the Saints' momentum remained high as
Mia Astrauskas captured first place in the mile run. Her time of 5:41.95 was not only a personal best but also marked her first time breaking the six-minute barrier in her collegiate career.
Addison Ash added another win for St. Lawrence, taking the 400-meter dash in 1:04.92. Rounding out the top finishes,
Amelia Berthold returned to the track to take second in the 55-meter hurdles (9.13), and
Hannah Garrepy earned a second-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.98.
St. Lawrence returns to action at home on Friday, February 20, as the Saints host the SLU Open.Â
