The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team opened competition at the AARTFC championships on Wednesday, with Amelia Berthold pacing the Saints through the first four events of the heptathlon.
Berthold posted a 16.30 in the 100 meter hurdles, then followed with a 27.56 in the 200-meter run. In the high jump, she cleared 1.46 meters, and added an 8.55 meter effort in the shot put to close out the opening day of the multi. Berthold sits ninth out of 16 athletes in the overall heptathlon standings through four events with 2,356 points.
In the women's 5,000-meter run, Avery Blanchard finished with a time of 18:49.82.
Competition continues Thursday at the AARTFC championships, as Berthold returns to wrap up the heptathlon.
