Saints Esports completed a very strong performance against some very tough opponents in week six of the NECC.
Starting off Monday, Valorant lost 2-0 to New England College, the top seed in their division. On Tuesday, Super Smash Bros 'A' kept it close, but fell to University at Albany 2-0, also, the top seed of their division. Super Smash Bros 'B' and Rocket League did not get the opportunity to play, as both Marist University and Indiana University forfeit their matches against the Saints.
Friday night, Overwatch completed their final matches of the season against Ramapo College and Post University. It was a decisive evening with Saints Overwatch beating Ramapo College 3-0 and Post University 3-1. Our athlete for the week is Joshua Kobayashi for his crucial role as tank, playing Winston and Doomfist through the double header. Kobayashi ended the evening with the most cumulative damage and kills for the St. Lawrence Esports team.
In addition, to the strong performances, the success in this past week marks a new record for St. Lawrence Esports wins through a single year. Esports Coordinator,
Kadin deRuijter, describes the achievement as "a clear indicator that our St. Lawrence Varsity Esports philosophies are pushing our student-athletes in the right direction", reinforcing that "these new highs will incentivize our student-athletes to do what they love most, get competitive and outperform the past." The Saints completed their 2024-2025 season 38-42 with a 47.5-percent win rate, up from a 21-37 record and 36.2-percent win rate the year prior. As it stands, this 2025-2026 season, the Saints sit at a record breaking 42-27 standing.
Lola Caruso, a sophomore majoring in Psychology describes her time on the Varity roster saying, "we all put in the time and effort despite all of us having other responsibilities, and it's definitely paying off."
This is the most wins the St. Lawrence Esports program has seen in it's existence. With one more week to go until conference championships and ultimately, NECC Nationals, the Saints march forward to setting the bar even higher and matching their best performance to date - a conference championship!
