Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

LeDrew Tallies Two Points, Smith Stops 31 in the Skating Saints' 3-1 Win Over Brown

Rasmus Svartström, Sam LeDrew, and Isack Bandu all found the net, and Cameron Smith made 31 saves in goal as the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team battled to a 3-1 win over Brown on Friday night in Appleton Arena.

St. Lawrence improved to 6-22-3 overall and 5-13-1 in ECAC play, while Brown fell to 5-20-2 and 4-13-2 in league action.

The first period came and went without any goals, but it wasn't for a lack of chances, as both teams had opportunities on the man-advantage.

The Bears had two power play chances in the first 8:50 of play, but Smith and the penalty kill unit kept Brown at bay. St. Lawrence went on a power play of their own near the midway point of the first, but Tyler Shea was equally sharp in the visiting goal.

St. Lawrence went into the second period on the power play thanks to a scrum in the final 15 seconds of the first period. The Saints poured on six shot attempts in the first 1:30 over the period, but the score remained at 0-0.

The score remained scoreless through the TV timeout and into the final five minutes of the second where the Scarlet and Brown claimed the lead.

Svartström started the play, catching the puck out of the air as a Bears' defender tried to chip it out of the zone. He dished the puck off to Cayden Casey, who found Tyler Cristall for a shot. His bid was stopped, but the rebound was corralled, and the senior found Svartström, who buried a backhand shot past Shea to take the lead.

St. Lawrence was assessed a penalty at the second-period buzzer, and the Bears took advantage on the power play to start the third. Brown's Brian Nicholas was the benefactor rifling a shot home at the 1:28 mark to tie the contest at 1-1.

The game was tied as it went into the TV timeout in the third, but the Saints used the break to their advantage and regained the lead moments later.

At the 13:19 mark, Jake Lammens had the puck at the blue line and put a shot on goal that was deflected wide by Gabe Westling. LeDrew was in the corner and collected the puck before letting go of a tight-angle shot on the Bears' net. The shot went off the helmet of Shea and in to give St. Lawrence the 2-1 lead.

Brown pulled Shea with less than three minutes to go, and the Scarlet and Brown made them pay right away. Smith padded a shot off to LeDrew, who found Bandu exiting the zone. The senior scored the empty-net goal to make it 3-1.

Smith made three more saves in the final moments to secure the win for the Saints.

Smith and Shea each made 31 saves in the effort, while St. Lawrence held the 34-32 shot advantage.

Brown went 1-for-4 on the man-advantage, while St. Lawrence went 1-for-3.

St. Lawrence will be back at Appleton Arena tomorrow night for their final home game of the regular season against Yale at 7 p.m. Before the game, the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team will honor the four members of the Class of 2026 for senior day.
