Season Preview: No. 28 Men’s Squash Turns to Young Core as It Chases League Title in 2026-27

The St. Lawrence University men's squash team, which has finished as runner-up in the Liberty League Tournament in each of the last four seasons, will look to break through with a deep, sophomore-heavy group in 2026-27.

The Scarlet and Brown, who are ranked No. 28 in the preseason CSA Squash poll, went 8-12 last season and advanced to the Summers Cup at the CSA Team Nationals. They open the new campaign on Friday, October 30, at 4 p.m. at Hobart.

The ladder returns most of its top end. First-Team All-Liberty League selections Mina Wasseem and Emirhan Sen are back after standout first-year seasons. Wasseem was the league tournament's Most Outstanding Performer, playing every match at No. 1. Sen went 11-7 from the top three spots. Junior Miguel Posada Villa, a Second Team All-League pick, also returns.

The team does lose its Class of 2026 seniors: Patrick Walford (a First Team selection who led the team with 14 wins), Harrison Callaway, Alexander Scott, Gavin Cassidy and Athrva Yadav.

"This season is more of a rebuild than a retool after graduating more than half of our starting roster last year." Said head coach Dave Morrish. "With only one senior set to graduate at the end of this season and several high-level early decision applications already in, the future of our program looks bright. Our pre-season ranking is 28; a great run at the Liberty League Championships and an end-of-season ranking of 25 would be a successful season."

Joining Wasseem and Sen in the sophomore class are Luke Black, Siddhartha Ghosh, Jesus Peña, Suhaan Shareef, Milo Stephenson and Taha Syed. The junior class is Posada Villa, Braden Chastanet, Coby Galarza and Dmitry Stepanenko. Gunnar Tebo is the team's lone senior.

Morrish also welcomes three first-years who will compete for spots in the Saints' nine: Christopher Corcoran, Pablo Mateo Necco and Rukudzo Midzi.

After the opener at Hobart, the Saints head to Washington, D.C., for a November 5 match at Squash on Fire against Navy, then travel to Franklin & Marshall on November 6. They return to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on December 4-6 for a run of matches at Vassar. They face Vassar on December 4, Fordham and Haverford on December 5, and Wesleyan on December 6.

Following the holiday break, the Saints visit Bowdoin (January 13), Bates (January 14), and Brown (January 15), then host Dickinson for their first match at the Robie Squash Center on January 30. A February 3 trip to Hamilton leads into the Liberty League Tournament, which will be held at the Robie Squash Center on February 13-14.
