After falling to Chatham in their first match of the season, the St. Lawrence University men's squash team exacted a measure of revenge as they defeated Chatham 8-1 on Friday afternoon in the Quarterfinal round of the Summers Cup at the CSA Team Nationals in Philadelphia, Pa.
St. Lawrence improved to 8-10 with the win, while Chatham fell to 6-9.
The Saints started off hot and raced out to a 4-0 lead early in the match.
At two,
Miguel Posada Villa took on Abdelrahman Sadek and earned an 11-9, 11-9, 11-1 win, while
Alexander Scott won 11-3, 11-5, 11-2 at five against Brett Poles. St. Lawrence also had wins at eight and nine by default to take the commanding lead.
The win was secured at seven, where
Athrva Yadav took on Obed Roman Garcia. Yadav lost the first game 12-10 but won the next three 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 to take the 3-1 win. At one, the score went to 6-1 thanks to an 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 win by
Mina Wasseem in his match against Sebastian Vaca Sanchez.
In the final two matches of the day,
Patrick Walford played at four and defeated Alejandro Cruz 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 13-11, while
Harrison Callaway won 11-3, 11-8, 11-5 against Keyel Beasley at number six.
St. Lawrence advances to the Semifinals of the Summers Cup tomorrow, where they will take on No. 3-seeded Hamilton at noon.
