Saints Varsity Esports Sets Program Record with 14-Match Winning Streak

St. Lawrence Varsity Esports continued its strong start to the Fall 2026 season in week three, finishing 4-1 across Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, and Overwatch. The week was highlighted by the Saints extending their program-record varsity esports winning streak to 14 consecutive matches, surpassing the previous record of eight set during the Spring 2025 season.

Super Smash Bros Varsity went 2-0 on the week with a pair of sweeps. The Saints opened Monday against Columbia College (S.C.), earning a 2-0 victory with crew battle scores of 12-9 and 12-8. St. Lawrence returned Tuesday against Waynesburg University and recorded another 2-0 win, taking the two crew battles 12-7 and 12-10. The two victories helped push the Saints' program-wide varsity winning streak to 13 consecutive matches.

Rocket League extended the historic streak Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over King's College. St. Lawrence opened the series with a tight 4-3 win before taking game two decisively, 6-1. The Lions responded in game three, taking the round 2-1, but the Saints closed out the series with 3-1 and 3-2 victories to earn their 14th consecutive varsity win.

The record-setting run unfortunately came to an end Thursday against John Jay College. John Jay jumped out to a 3-0 series lead, but the Saints refused to go quietly, responding with wins of 3-1 and 2-1 to bring the series back to 3-2. St. Lawrence pushed for the comeback in game six, but John Jay narrowly took the final game 3-2 to secure a 4-2 series victory. Despite the loss, the Saints' 14-match streak established a new program record, surpassing the previous mark of eight consecutive varsity wins set in Spring 2025.

Overwatch, now the last undefeated St. Lawrence Esports team, received an ECAC bye this week before returning Friday night for NECC competition against Widener University. The Saints closed the week on a positive note with a 3-0 sweep, taking the three maps by scores of 2-1, 3-0, and 3-1. The final score did not fully reflect how competitive the match was, as Widener challenged St. Lawrence throughout the series, but the Saints were able to close out each map when it mattered and keep their undefeated season intact at 6-0 overall.

With week three complete, St. Lawrence Varsity Esports sits at 16-4 overall through the first three weeks of the Fall 2026 season. Super Smash Bros Varsity currently sits at 5-3, Rocket League at 5-1, and Overwatch remains undefeated at 6-0.
