Berthold Takes Pentathlon Win on Opening Day of St. Lawrence Invitational

Amelia Berthold took first place in the women's pentathlon, which was the first event of the St. Lawrence Invitational as the indoor track and field meet opened on Friday afternoon.

Berthold's victory sent the St. Lawrence University women's track and field team to first place following day one at the meet. She had 3,035 points, a personal best and No. 13 in NCAA Division III following Friday evening.

Berthold, a native of Hanover, N.H., had a first place finish in the pentathlon's high jump, equaling her career high in the event with a 1.51 meter leap. She also placed first in the 800-mete run, crossing the line in 2:29.16.

Elsewhere in the event, Kaitlyn Putman competed well in the shot put for the Scarlet and Brown, taking first place with a collegiate-best toss of 10.40 meters.

St. Lawrence returns to the Newell Field House for the second day of the meet Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
