The St. Lawrence University men's squash program saw a program record fall and a first-year claim Rookie of the Year honors to highlight their 2024-25 season.
The Saints posted a 9-10 overall record for the season and advanced to the Summers Cup at the CSA Team Nationals.
In the team's first match of the season back in November against Navy, senior
Lewis Anderson earned his record-breaking 63
rd career win for St. Lawrence. Anderson, who entered the matchup tied with Moustafa Bayoumy '18 for career wins with 62, took on Matthew Wang in the number one spot for the Scarlet and Brown. The senior wasted little time breaking the record, defeating his opponent 11-4, 11-3, 11-7.
After an 0-4 record through the first semester, the team came back strong in the second semester, winning their first three matches against their league rivals at Hobart, along with wins at Brown and Wesleyan. The team faced a setback loss against Bowdoin before the team took a break for Individual Nationals.
Anderson found himself in the Pool Trophy Draw at the event, while newcomer Grégory Malsang made his CSA debut in the Molloy East Bracket. Anderson fell to the consolation in his draw, while Malsang advanced to the semifinals of the Molloy East in day one of the Nationals. He would go on to drop his match the following day to end his run.
A pair of team wins against Hamilton and Dickinson set the Saints up well for the Liberty League Tournament at the Robie Squash Center. The Saints defeated Bard 6-1, and Haverford 9-0 to put them in the Championship against Rochester, a familiar foe.
The Yellowjackets claimed the title, but Malsang was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after defeating Rochester's Yash Fadte in the title match.
St. Lawrence earned a win over Chatham and a pair of losses in their next three matches before the Team Nationals, where they competed in the Summers Cup. An opening 5-4 win over Dickinson gave way to a 5-4 loss to Bates to end their run at the bracket. The team would fall 6-3 to Bowdoin, ending their season.
Malsang was named the League's Rookie of the Year for his efforts on the court and was named first-team All-Liberty League. Anderson,
Miguel Posada Villa, and
Patrick Walford joined Malsang on the All-League teams, earning second-team honors.
At the SLU Sports Awards in May, Anderson was also named the Martha Finch Senior Male Athlete Award recipient in front of his peers at Gulick Theater.
