The St. Lawrence University men's squash team, which has finished as runners-up in the last three Liberty League Tournaments, will be making a charge to break through and win the title with a young squad in 2025-26.
The Scarlet and Brown, who were ranked No. 23 in the preseason CSA Squash poll, finished last season at 9-10 overall and turn the page to this season on Saturday when the team heads to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham in an 11:30 a.m. match.
The ladder will look a bit different this year after graduating its eight members of the Class of 2025.
"Despite losing six of our top ten from last season, top recruits
Mina Wasseem and
Emirhan Senn will help us fill some of that void," said head coach
David Morrish. "We feel like this team has a realistic chance of capturing its first Liberty League title in quite a few years, and will be competitive in the CSA Nationals."
Returning to the team are sophomores
Andrey Bakulev,
Braden Chastanet,
Coby Galarza,
Miguel Posada Villa, and
Dmitry Stepanenko, along with their lone junior,
Gunnar Tebo. In the Class of 2026, the Scarlet and Brown have five seniors in
Harrison Callaway,
Gavin Cassidy,
Alexander Scott,
Patrick Walford, and
Athrva Yadav, who will lead the team.
Head coach
David Morrish and the Saints welcome nine new players to the field in 2025-26 in first-years,
Luke Black,
Daniel Cephas,
Siddhartha Ghosh,
Jesus Peña,
Emirhan Sen,
Suhaan Shareef,
Milo Stephenson,
Taha Syed, and
Mina Wasseem, who all will look to claim a spot in the Saints' nine.
Following the match against Chatham, the Saints will take on Connecticut College on the road on November 21, then will play two matches in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on November 22, taking on Liberty League foes Vassar and Haverford at Vassar.
Their Fall schedule ends on December 6 when the team hosts Navy at the Robie Squash Center.
Upon returning from the holiday break, the Saints will host Brown and Franklin & Marshall before taking part in the CSA Individual Nationals on January 23
rd.
Matches against Colby, Bowdoin, Amherst, Dickinson, and Hamilton will serve as a runway for the Liberty League Tournament, which will be held at the Robie Squash Center on February 14-15.
The season will wind down with a pair of home matches against Hobart and Bates before the team finishes the campaign on the weekend of February 26 at the CSA Team Nationals in Philadelphia, Pa.
