The St. Lawrence University's men's track and field team placed fourth at the Liberty League championships, led by
Nick Lyndaker, who was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet.
Â
Lyndaker earned the honor with two dominant individual victories, taking first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:54.85 and claiming the 5000-meter title in 14:33.43. He now heads to the AARTFC championship.
"I was proud of the team this weekend," said Saints head coach
John Newman. "We managed some really strong PR's and several surprise scorers in a very competitive Liberty League championship. Nick raced two very strategic races to get himself first to the finish line in both. Our jumpers,
John Mahoney and
Erik Shattenberg both stepped up big to get points in long, high and triple that were unexpected. We also had last minute changes in both our 4x1 and 4x4 relay lineups that netted us seed beating places and an AARTFC standard in the 4x4.
The Saints also earned key points in the relays. The 4x100-meter team of
Jack Storm,
Caleb Young,
Jack Beauchesne, and
William Hauf finished fourth in 43.03 seconds, while the 4x400-meter squad of
Dylan Keating,
Leif Harvey,
Riley Cushman, and
Caleb Young placed fourth with a time of 3:23.47. That sends them to the AARTFC championships, hitting the qualifying mark.Â
Mahoney cleared a personal-best 1.81 meters to take fourth in the high jump, while
Cameron Dillard also posted a PR, placing ninth in the same event at 1.76 meters. Shattenburg's leap of 12.41 meters got the Saints points in the triple, as he finished seventh overall.
In the 800-meter run,
Cyrus Goetze clocked a personal-best 1:59.09 to finish 21st.
Peter Stubler had a breakthrough race in the 1500-meter run, breaking the four-minute barrier for the first time with a PR of 3:59.46, placing ninth and hitting the AARTFC qualifier.
Tucker Hall wrapped up the scoring with an eighth-place finish in the decathlon, totaling 5,005 points, which included a first-place finish in the shot put (10.71 meters).
The team now heads to the AARTFC championships, set for Thursday, May 14 in Williamstown, Mass.
