Finals Recap
The Saints had the opportunity to make program history with the Overwatch team playing in the division finals, while the League of Legends also had the opportunity to end their season on a high note! The Saints faced off against New England College, who finished right behind them during the regular season. The Saints drafted similar compositions to their previous match-up, resulting in a 2-0 sweep in favor of the Saints securing themselves third. Then in the championship match, our Overwatch team went on to put up a dominant effort by defeating Thomas College 4-1, marking the first division title in the St. Lawrence Esports program history. Both Overwatch and League of Legends walked away with a victory and along with Rocket League earned a spot in competing in Nationals to continue their seasons!
Nationals Recap
First team to take on the national's stage was League of Legends, who took on Robert Morris University (winners of the spring season). The Saints struggled to find their footing in game one but fought back as the game went onc, but ultimately dropped game one. Game two, the Saints decided to draft a heavy dive composition that took Robert Morris University by surprise as they struggled to hold on in game two. After a well fought game and the Saints leading most of the game, Robert Morris was able to come back and secure game two winning the series 2-0.
Rocket League faced off next on Thursday and put on a show. The Saints were successful in winning out both of the first games 3-0, then 5-4. Montana battled back winning games three and four 3-2, then 6-2, bringing the series down to a game five. Game five was back and forth showcasing the talents on both sides of the ball, with the Grizzlies winning 3-2 and taking the series.
Overwatch was the final team to make the nationals stage and played on Friday against Thomas College. A team that they had faced before let the Saints have an idea of who they were up against. Carrying the momentum from winning the first program title the Overwatch team was looking to keep the streak going. Their match was a spectacle to watch as they were able to secure their win in the round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals for nationals.
The Saints take on Fort Lewis College in the NECC National Quarterfinals on Friday, May 2 at 6 p.m.
