The Saints had an all-time high of four teams competing in playoffs for the St. Lawrence University Esports program this week.
First, we had our Super Smash Bros team fall 2-0 in their match against Fisher East. Next, League of Legends took on West Virginia University Institute of Technology. After a close fight in map one, the Saints ended up losing the first game of the series. The League of Legends team bounced back though winning the next two games and completing the reverse sweep. Moving to Thursday, the Saints saw our Rocket League team go against the fall semester winner of their division, Seton Hill Gold. Seton Hill went on to sweep the Saints 3-0. Finally, Friday night the Overwatch team battled back-and-forth with the SVU Knights, where they eventually came out on top with a 3-2 victory.
The Saints headed into the semifinals with two different teams.
On Tuesday we had the League of Legends team taking on Clark Silver. St. Lawrence started the series off with a win boosting the teams morale to close out the series. After a tough early game start in game two Clark Silver was able to put their first game win. The series was going to be decided by a game three and it did not disappoint. The Saints drafted a late game scaling comp with Clark Silver drafting a heavy front to back comp. Clark was able to pull off the win, sending the Saints to battle it out for third.
The Overwatch team took on Widener University Blue on Friday, where the Overwatch team put up a dominant effort in winning 3-1. They lost the first match starting out at a 1-0 deficit, but went on to win three straight games to make the finals. Both teams stay in action next week, with the League of Legends team looking to secure a third-place finish and the Overwatch team looking to secure the first division title in program history!
