With the racing at the 2025 Winter Speed Order wrapping up this past Sunday, St. Lawrence University alumna Maggie Fellows '13 picked up a win in the 1x final to begin the road to the LA Summer Olympics in 2028 and the Shanghai Worlds.
In the women's single sculls A final, the Warwick, Mass. native and member of the Cambridge Boat Club/Long Beach Rowing Association's, Fellows landed first place finishing 2.09 seconds ahead of Green Racing Project's Grace Joyce (Northfield, Ill./University of Wisconsin) in her first race of the year. This is her third Speed Order victory, as she previously won the Fall Speed Order in November, and last year's Winter Speed Order.
"It's good to start the year off on the water and I'm looking forward to more racing opportunities in the next few months," said Fellows.
The three-time national team member Fellows who raced in the women's quadruple sculls at the 2022 World Rowing Championships, finished with a time of 8:00.11 beating out three Paris Olympians.
Fellows will be inducted into the St. Lawrence University Athletics Hall of Fame along with the 2008, 2009, and 2010 women's rowing teams in May.
"We're so proud of Maggie and all her accomplishments," said head coach
Nick Hughes. "We look forward to congratulating her and her former teammates at the Hall of Fame ceremony in May."
With the win, Fellows still looks to continue improving and is planning on her next steps in the future.
"I haven't made any plans or decisions at this stage, but I think it's still pretty early so I'm focusing on making progress one day at a time, and probably need to have some conversations in the next few weeks to see how we want to map out this year and the next few years."
