Saints Place Fourth Overall at LL Championships, Lyndaker Named Men's Track Athlete of the Meet

Nick Lyndaker took another individual championship, this time in the 3000-meter run, as he led the St. Lawrence University men's track and field team to a fourth overall finish in the Liberty League championship on Saturday.

The victory was his second of the meet after he took the mile run championship during day one in Ithaca, N.Y. The result helped him to the title of individual track athlete of the meet.

"We had another great day at the conference championships," said Saints head coach John Newman. "Nick taking the win in the 3000m and earning runner of the meet was most definitely a highlight.  However, we had several other big individual performance as well as a seasons best in the 4x4."

St. Lawrence also received some strong performances across the meet, with personal bests and regional qualifying standard occurring at their last possible opportunity.

After qualifying for the final on Friday, Trystan Biller mustered a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 8.46 seconds for the podium finish at his first-career conference championship meet. He also just narrowly missed his personal best in the process.

In the sprints, Will Hauf placed sixth overall after qualifying for the final on Friday. He posted a podium finish with a time of 7.10.

Peter Stubler sent himself to the AARTFC regional meet next week by hitting the qualifying standard in his 800-meter run performance. He placed 10th overall in the event, recording a personal best time of 1:57.17.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Saints' team of Kristofer Mellor, Dylan Keating, Caleb Young, and Biller had a season-best time of 3:27.96.

"With two events remaining in the meet we knew we may need a big effort in the 4x4 to snag 4th place in the team standings," said Newman. "The guys didn't disappoint and ran our best time of the season in the 4x4 to place fourth.  Dylan ran a particularly impressive leg and this also helped clinch the fourth position in the team standings."

Newman was also pleased with the Saints' performance in the field. First, the Saints had two separate athletes podium in the triple, with Erik Shattenberg placing sixth overall by leaping for 12.54 meters. Mike Smigen followed him up in seventh with a jump for 12.47. Both were personal-best marks.

"Erik and Mike set the tone in the triple jump finding a way into the finals then hitting their best marks on their last jumps to propel them into 6th and 7th. Neither were ranked in scoring position," said Newman.

The Saints will now return to Ithaca, N.Y., where they'll compete in the AARTFC championships beginning Friday, March 7.
