St. Lawrence University's Nick Lyndaker delivered a record-breaking performance at the Fastrack National Invitational, setting a new program record in the 3000-meter run as the St. Lawrence University men's track and field team competed at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
Lyndaker took first place in the 3000 at the prestigious meet, recording a winning time of 8:10.14. That beat the program record, which he set himself in February 2024, by three seconds, and by default also marks a new personal best.
"We were looking for around 8:10 going in but thought he would have some more help from the predominately D1 field," said Saints head coach John Newman about Lyndaker's race. "After nearly a mile of laps that were off pace he made a move to the front and brought the tempo back up.  By the two-kilometer mark, I thought it wouldn't be today, but he pressed on in the final 600 and dropped some very strong laps for a new school record and a mark that will put him in the hunt for some postseason racing. Nick doesn't fail to surprise me."
Patrick Russell clocked a personal-best time of 14:56.13 in the mile run, securing seventh place, while Griffin Roeder followed in 12th place at 15:06.10. Russell's run was the first sub-15 time of his career. Both runners hit AARTFC qualifying standards with their times, and will head to regionals later in the season.
Brendan O'Horo improved on his personal-best mark from his last outing, recording another one by launching himself over the bar at 4.05 meters. He placed 16th in that event.
In the sprints, Will Hauf had season best races in two separate events. He ran a 22.86 in the 200-meter dash, finishing 32nd overall ina strong field, while recording a 7.09 in the 60-meter dash prelim.Â
Peter Stubler posted a 2:00.80 in the 800-meter dash, just one second off his personal best, placing 41st.
St. Lawrence will next send athletes to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Friday, February 14, before returning home for the SLU Open in Canton, N.Y. the following weekend.Â
