Saints Gear Up for Postseason with First-Place Finish at SLU Open

The St. Lawrence University men's track and field team walked off the track with a first-place finish at the SLU Open Friday.

There were two personal record runs for the Saints in the mile run for the Saints' top two finishers. Peter Stubler and Henry Hagen were the top two in the race respectively, with Stubler beating his personal record by nine seconds at a time of 4:29.63. Hagen also beat his PR, crossing the line in 4:31.08.

In the 800-meter run, fresh off a program record in the mile last week, Nick Lyndaker got the victory in the event with a time of 1:55.27 – which hit the AARTFC qualifying standard. Timothy Boyce also hit the regional standard with his second place finish of 1:55.70.

Trystan Biller and Erik Marelli scored top finishes in the 60-meter hurdles, placing first and second respectively in the event. Biller recorded a finish of 8.85 to win the event, while Marelli placed second at 9.15.

Matthew Taylor took a victory in a field full of St. Lawrence runners in the 5000-meter run. He crossed the line in 15:41.51. Colin Young (15:56.40) and Cole Jacobsen (16:07.31) rounded out the top three in the event for the Scarlet and Brown.
Caleb Young had the victory in the 400-meter dash. He placed first in the group of seven runners, with a time of 51.99.

After Will Hauf won his heat in the men's 60-meter dash first-round run, qualifying for the final, where he ran a 7.10 dash to place second overall to Plattsburgh State's sprinter.

Three straight Saints were in the top of the field for the 3000-meter run, with Patrick Russell hitting the AARTFC qualifying standard with his victory in a time of 8:46.77. Griffin Roeder and Will Chalfant were right behind him to round out the top three.

In the relays, the Saints got two good performances from their 4x400-meter relay squads. The team of Kristofer Mellor, Dylan Keating, Young and Biller took the victory with a team time of 3:34.25, while Riley Cushman, Cyrus Goetze, Hagen and Stubler took second in the event, which featured five total teams.

The Saints will now travel to Ithaca, N.Y. next, as they enter the postseason. The Liberty League championships will begin Friday, February 28.
