Lyndaker Runner-Up, Saints Sixth Overall at Home NCAA Regionals

Nick Lyndaker's second-place finish paced the St. Lawrence University men's cross country team, as they finished sixth overall at their home course on Sunday at the NCAA Mideast Regionals in Canton, N.Y.

Lyndaker improved his standing by six places from his last NCAA regionals outing in 2024 at regionals on his final run on home turf in his collegiate career, after winning the Liberty League championship for the second consecutive season earlier this fall. He ran 25:11.5 and kept with the front pack for the duration of the race.

The race up front featured a late surge from Nathan Tassey of Roger Williams. Tassey made his move in the final two kilometers and pulled away for his repeat win at regionals. Lyndaker had a lead for a portion of the race in the sixth kilometer.

"Nick ran an amazing race to contend for the win today and net a runner up finish to an incredible talent in Nathan Tassey," said Saints head coach John Newman. "He shares this experience with an special group of senior teammates that helped improve our regional team performance from seventh last year to sixth today."

His second place finish is the Saints' best individual finish since Thomas Caulfield from the 2015 Atlantic Regional and marks his last circuit of the Hoff in the Scarlet and Brown. Lyndaker is the seventh runner-up since Petri Aho's win in 1989.  This matches Jeff Lyndaker in 1993, Lawton Redman in 1997, Ike Thomas in 2000, Kris Enwright in 2001, Jon French in 2004, John Johnston in 2011, and Caulfield in 2015.

Patrick Russell followed as St. Lawrence's second scorer, also netting All-Region honors alongside Lyndaker. The senior delivered a composed effort and moved up throughout the race, finishing 25th in 25:41.4. Senior Griffin Roeder added a 43rd place finish in 26:25.9.

Henry Hagen closed hard over the final mile and crossed the line 49th in 26:37.7. Eliot O'Mahoney rounded out the scoring in 54th with a time of 26:43.5. Matt Serrano contributed a 27:03.2 finish, and Max Finley completed the lineup in 27:41.3.

"I'm really proud of the team for embracing the conditions and giving our home crowd lots to cheer for," continued Newman. "While Nick is a lock for an individual bid, we will wait for tomorrow's at-large selections to see if the team or possibly Pat will accompany him to Spartanburg."

With Lyndaker leading the way and the remaining scorers positioned tightly, the Saints turned in a strong team showing ahead of NCAA selections on Sunday, as the field becomes more clear for the championship, set for Roger Milliken Cross Country Course in Spartanburg, S.C.
