Box Score Elizabeth Flynn had 14 points and 10 rebounds, but the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team fell 75-59 on the road against the Hamilton Continentals in their first game of 2025 Saturday afternoon in Clinton, N.Y.
With the loss to open 2025, the Saints fall to 6-3 on the season with the heart of Liberty League play right around the corner.Â
"We witnessed one of the best individual performances I have ever witnessed at this level," said Saints head coach
Dan Roiger. "Kendall Harris was a magician today. What a performance!"
Harris, a sophomore guard, posted a career-high 30 points to pace both teams in the Hamilton win.
Â
"We need to continue to grow and get better, we struggled out of the gate today," Roiger continued. "Granted, it was our first game in four weeks while they had already played three games, but we were not mentally focused in the first half and we buried ourselves with turnovers and breakdowns on the defensive end. Hamilton is a good team and athletically we can play with them but we aren't there in terms of execution or toughness yet."
Hamilton got off to a solid start on both ends of the court, and quickly opened a 12-4 advantage five minutes into the game. The Continentals continued their efficient offense and were doubling up the Saints 22-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The St. Lawrence offense was better in the second quarter, shooting 50 per cent, but they were not able to cut into the Continentals' lead. Hamilton ended the quarter scoring 10 unanswered points to earn a 48-27 lead halfway through the game. The Scarlet and Brown were led by
Elizabeth Flynn who had nine points.Â
A couple minutes into the third quarter,
Jackie Malley hit a three to get the game to 51-33 but then a 10-2 run from the Continentals put the Saints well out of reach once again. The Saints failed to get any runs going the rest of the quarter, and the two teams matched each other with 18 points on each side, putting the score at 66-45 with 10 minutes left.
The Saints got on a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter, holding the Continentals scoreless for over four minutes and a three pointer by
Norah Niesz got the game to 68-54 with four minutes remaining. However, the Saints couldn't get any closer than this and fell by 16.Â
Malley,
Mason Baker-Schlendering, and
KJ Greenhalgh all had eight points while Baker-Schlendering also was second on the squad with five rebounds.Â
The Saints will look to regroup two days from now, as they have a road matchup against the Clarkson Golden Knights, whom they beat 58-44 back in November.Â
