The St. Lawrence University men's track and field team competed in the RIT invitational Thursday night in Rochester, N.Y. The Saints had multiple top-five finishes, personal records, and qualifying times across the events.
First-year
Trystan Biller took home second place in the 60-meter hurdles, with his time of 8.55. That hit the AARTFC qualifying time, and propels the Rensselaer Falls, N.Y. native to regionals later this winter.
In the 5000-meter run, first-year
Kyle Gaffney excelled in the distance run by placing third in this event. His time was 16:30.49.
For the mile run, senior
Henry Baker placed third with his time of 4:41.73.
Two Saints placed in the top four for the 3000-meter. Sophomore
Will Chalfant placed third with a time of 9:17.71, and first-year
Eliot O'Mahoney finished fourth with his own time of 9:22.45.
For the field events, junior
Michael Smigen tied for fifth in the high jump by clearing 1.77 meters. Smigen also placed fifth in the triple jump.
Brendan O'Horo hit a new personal best in the pole vault, breaking the four-meter mark for the first time in his career with a jump of 4.00 meters. He placed eighth overall.
Matthew Brinck also posted personal bests, with his coming in his two field events, the shot put and weight throw. Brinck's toss in the weight throw went 12.68 meters, while his heave in the shot put was 12.31 meters.
The Saints are back in action early next week, when they compete in the Plattsburgh Sprint/Field Meet in the Lake City on Tuesday, February 4.
